#5: Relying on my memory

While I wouldn't say my memory is the worst, I've definitely let a few good ideas slip away into the ether!

Ideas seem to always pop up when it's least convenient—while I'm enjoying a leisurely stroll, catching up with a friend over dinner, or even in the wee hours of the night. I used to tell myself, "I'll remember this when I sit down to work next," only to struggle remembering I had an idea at all!

Now, the moment inspiration hits, I whip out my phone or a trusty pocket notebook and scribble down that idea right away.

Sure, not all of these noted ideas are worth pursuing, but they have another perk. Jotting down my ideas gives me the chance to look at my own thoughts from a distance later on, critique them objectively, and better gauge their worth.
